Localization Project Manager for the All Correct Group Dmitrii Antonov explained the importance of good localization during his lecture at the inaugural Casual Connect Tel Aviv. “It lets the text talk to the user more personally,” Dmitrii said. For some of Dmitrii’s best practices, see the video below.

Dmitrii Antonov has been Localization Project Manager at All Correct Group since 2011. After finishing university, he searched for a job using his foreign language skills by putting an ad online. This led to an invitation to interview for a new position at All Correct Group and he landed the job.

The Product is the Text

Working in the field of localization is not simply about the games. Dmitrii describes, “It’s kind of similar to producing things in a factory, but in our case, the product is the text. So you can’t just be a people person, you also have to be a technician to keep all the mechanisms working.”

While at university, Dmitrii worked teaching English as a second language, something which, of course, required him to work with people. In a class made up of many different personalities, motivating all of them to do the same thing for a certain period of time was quite a challenge. But this has turned out to be useful experience; he is now involved in a similar challenge working with a team of translators and editors. Working with people and foreign languages is something he finds deeply satisfying. Even if he weren’t in his present job, he would be searching for work incorporating his skills in both these areas.

Quality Control Localization

In the four years he has been working in the game industry, Dmitrii has most enjoyed the fact that the work never is boring. He points out that there is tremendous opportunity for new inventions in the localization process. And he finds it especially exciting to try out new tools and being able to influence the standards of this industry as it is developing.

Quality control has been the most challenging issue; Dmitrii is constantly working to improve the processes. He asks, “How do you find a good translator? How do you assess his or her abilities?” It is equally challenging to help the good translators become more professional and to maintain high-quality text on large, long-term projects such as MMORPGs. These are all problems All Correct Group has been faced with in recent years, and Dmitrii is proud to report that they have succeeded in solving them.

Developing Technologies Services

He naturally keeps close watch on developing technologies, claiming that to be competitive with others you have to walk with them step by step, but to be more successful than they are, you have to run.

The most exciting time in Dmitrii’s career came when he first used CAT (computer assisted translation) tools. He insists, “They have taken the localization industry to a new level.”

The most important trend that he sees coming in the game localization industry is online services for customers. So you will be able to check the progress on a project, see statistics from an app on your mobile phone, and add or delete files.

When Dimitrii has free time, he tries to step away from the computer and spend time with his family, especially in the outdoors. He also enjoys martial arts.
